Modern Tales was created by Femi Kolade and Angeli Macfarlane, following two significant collaborative experiences: helping to create and establish Central Film School in London and running the Academy of South East Asian Filmmakers in collaboration with MOFILM.
Femi Kolade is a filmmaker and educator, who has worked extensively in Higher Education and across the film and broadcast industry for institutions and companies such as Watershed Media Centre, Youth Culture Television (YCTV), Central Film School (CFSL), UK Film Council, British Film Institute (BFI), Film London, Arts Council, Mofilm, Arista Development, Skillset, Real World Records, Getty Centre for Arts and Humanities, Miramax, BBC Films, Celador Films, ITV, and Channel Four.
He is currently a module leader at the London Film School (LFS), the founder of Bushfire Digital Media, a hybrid media content production, education, and technology company, which is part of the Ravensbourne digital media & design industry incubator, and the director of the African Creative Industry Investment Summit (ACIIS), a talent, creative entrepreneurship and diversity initiative, particularly targeted at strategic development opportunities in Africa and the African diaspora.
He holds a postgraduate masters in Film and Television Direction from the National Film and Television School (NFTS), and a BA (hons) in Classics from the University of Bristol.
Angeli is the founder of Script Cube, her training consultancy in film and TV development, which was launched in 2015. Angeli’s clients include global and boutique brands: Creative England, British Film Institute, BBC, Pathé, MOFILM, Altered Image, Element Pictures, National Geographic Films, 42 Management, Optimism and Sony Pictures TV. Script Cube supports writers, directors and producers in the development of feature film, TV drama and short film from script to screen. Angeli is also Film London’s Development Producer where she manages editorial content of the feature and short film production schemes: Microwave, London Calling and London Calling Plus.
Projects Angeli has recently developed include 10th Century Icelandic love saga by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, feature drama for BBC Scotland, co-produced with Andrea Calderwood at Slate, Sharon Horgan’s (CATASTROPHE) first feature written by NFTS screenwriting grad Fran Poletti, Gerard Lee (TOP OF THE LAKE) TV adaptation for Screen Australia. Angeli is also Co- Producer on a feature about David Bowie and Iggy Pop for Altered Image Films.
In recent years Angeli made four feature films with Altered Image: DEATH OF A PRESIDENT, winner of an Emmy, BANFF and an RTS award, I AM SLAVE which was BAFTA and Broadcast Awards nominated, the More4 feature documentary LITTLE MATADOR and OUTLAW PROPHET for Sony TV. With Element Pictures Angeli supported the development of John McDonagh’s THE GUARD. She also associate produced Tinge Krishnan’s first feature JUNKHEARTS and Microwave film BORROWED TIME, released in 2013.
Angeli teaches at the National Film & Television School in Script Development and on the Screenwriting MA. She is a full voting member of BAFTA, member of the RTS and Women in Film and Television.
